The Adventure Begins with Overland Peanut

Brian had been oooing and ahhhing over these LMTVs for a while and I never really took him seriously about wanting to own one and certainly didn’t think that people like us could ever (would ever) own a monster truck like that.

Peanut’s previous owner bought the truck off of a government auction and used it for several years. You can see in the photos above, a water tank in the bed of the truck which was used for spraying grass seed on Breckenridge Ski Resort right before we bought the truck.

Brian had seen this truck on Craigslist and became really interested when he realized that the truck was in Alma, CO - less than 200 miles away from us in Carbondale, and *conveniently on our way home from visiting my family.  Brian said, “let’s just go look at it… to see one in person!”  Well, after a test drive on some nearby dirt roads, somehow Brian bamboozled me into agreeing that purchasing this truck was a good idea.

At the top of Shrine Pass Road just after we bought the truck. We couldn’t wait to get on some high mountain dirt roads!

We drove home with Peanut that day, up and over Hoosier Pass into Breckenridge, and then over Vail Pass on I-70 and back home to Carbondale. The total drive took a little over 2 hours, most of it on the interstate. Thankfully learning to drive this thing in such ‘sink or swim’ circumstances was much easier than expected.
